For even, anti slip floors you can trust

Two-part, reinforced water based epoxy resin designed to keep your inside surfaces safe

Make floors permanently safe

Though a floor may look clean, it can easily become slippery and cause a serious slip hazard. Watco Safety Coat is the perfect solution for this in heavy wear areas such as warehouses, production areas, workshops and showrooms.

Safety Coat, as with all our coatings, is simple to apply, just stir the tins thoroughly, mix the components together until an even consistency and colour is obtained, then apply with a medium pile roller working well into the surface. Occasional stirring will ensure a more even distribution of the aggregate. Once you’re done, you’ll have a safety surface that lasts and lasts.

Floor paint that's an absolute diamond

When you need traction from slipping, there’s only one floor paint that’s a cut above the rest. Safety Coat from Watco is hands-down our toughest ever formula. Our unique non-slip floor treatment contains a ‘diamond-hard’ wax and ceramic additive that provides a hard-wearing finish that lasts and lasts.

All grades now CE Mark EN1504-2 and have impressive test results for slip resistance, abrasion, scratch and impact resistance, as well as for adhesion, hardness and flexibility.

  • Mid-gloss finely textured finish
  • Suitable for interior concrete, wood or existing well bonded paint
  • Coverage: 30m² per 5L per coat – two coats recommended
  • Curing time: 12 hours at 20°C
  • Primer not usually required. Use Powerfloat Primer on very smooth surfaces

Finely textured and easy to clean

Choosing the right anti slip coating for your floor can be a difficult choice. Firstly how do you know what level of slip resistance do you need? And how do you evaluate if the surface will be easy to maintain?

We put our anti slip products through rigorous testing so you can be sure when you're buying from Watco, you're getting a product that delivers. Safety Coat holds a Pendulum test value of 55 PTV. A number above 36 indicates a low slip potential and Safety Coat well exceeds this pass mark.

Many anti slip coatings contain grit to make them anti slip, however, this can make them difficult to clean and maintain as the mops and floor wipes catch on the sharp grit. The surface will become clogged with dirt and other contaminants, making the floor slippery again. If you want an anti slip surface that can still be cleaned easily, choose a product, such as Safety Coat, that contains beads which produce a finely textured finish, making the floor easy to clean.

A version for every surface

Some surfaces or areas have specific requirements, which means you need a modified formula to get the job done right. We’ve re-formulated our original Safety Coat to create Safety Coat Hygienic, Safety Coat Coarse and Safety Coat Cold Cure.

Safety Coat Hygienic incorporates Silver Iron technology, making it a great choice for areas where hygiene is just as important as a slip resistant, hard wearing finish. Safety Coat Coarse is available for high hazard areas, with a PTV of 59, it will provide an extra level of protection.

Lastly Safety Coat Cold Cure dries at minus 10°C, making it ideal for providing a finely textured surface in cold stores, walk-in fridges/freezers or unheated areas.

Professional results, every time

Formulating paints and coatings that can withstand even the toughest of environments is what our chemists do best. Two-part water-based systems vary hugely but it is best to go for a re-enforced, high performance product that contains the minimum amount of water, such as Safety Coat. Once the curing agent and resin are combined, the water evaporates, the coating dries and you’re left with a showroom floor.

Surface preparation

Can be applied to bare or previously painted surfaces providing the paint is well bonded.

Bare Concrete – remove surface laitance, dust and any light dirt or grease deposits using Watco Etch & Clean. Watco Etch & Clean also etches smooth, bare concrete surfaces to provide a key. Remove Etch & Clean by thoroughly rinsing with clean water and allow surface to dry. If residual damp remains this is acceptable since Safety Coat is breathable.

Powerfloated or very smooth surfaces – Watco Powerfloat Primer should be used on very smooth or power floated surfaces.

New Concrete – new concrete should be left for four weeks to dry in the summer and six in the winter. The surface should then be prepared using Watco Etch & Clean and thoroughly rinsed away and left to dry prior to applying this coating.

Painted surfaces – abrade to remove loose paint. Check remaining paint is well bonded. Very smooth, glossy paint should be lightly abraded to provide a key. Watco Bio D can be used to remove grease and oil from painted surfaces. Watco Concroff is a very powerful degreaser for contaminated bare concrete (Concroff can soften paint).

Highly porous surfaces – a primer may be required for high suction surfaces such as sand and cement screed. Please contact us for advice.

Mixing

Remove the two inner tins from the tall outer tin. Stir the contents of each tin thoroughly and pour all of the contents into the outer tin (scrape around the inside of the tins to remove any residue). Mix the components together thoroughly using a spatula or similar wide bladed tool (a piece of wooden batten is ideal). Continue mixing until an even colour and consistency are obtained. Do not mix more than one pack at a time. If a paint stirrer fitted to an electric drill is used, also use the spatula to blend in any unmixed material from the sides and bottom of the tin.

Application

Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 15°C), dry conditions with good ventilation. In very high temperatures (30°C and above) it is recommended that bare concrete is lightly dampened first with water. Apply with a medium pile roller, working well into the surface of the concrete. Occasional stirring will ensure a more even distribution of the aggregate. Do not exceed the maximum coverage of 30m² per 5 litre pack, per coat. The product will darken slightly as curing commences and it should not be over rollered. The second coat can be applied as soon as the first coat is dry (generally 4-6 hours) and should be applied within 5 days. If more than 5 days elapse, the first coat should be lightly abraded before the second coat is applied. Avoid washing the surface for seven days.
