Surface preparation

Joint sides should be clean and dry. Spalled joints should be repaired initially using Watco Concrex. For best results use Watco Back Up Rod to reduce deeper joints to the desired depth. Apply primer by brush to the sides of the joint and allow to dry (approx 30 minutes at 20ºC).

Mixing

It is important that the two components are very thoroughly mixed together. Poorly mixed product will not cure correctly. Empty the contents of the smaller tin into the larger tin and mix thoroughly for approximately 3 minutes using a wide bladed tool such as a palette knife. Alternatively use a slow speed electric drill and paddle. Immediately decant the mixed components into an empty container, ideally a jug (plastic or metal) or can with a pouring spout. This will assist when pouring the product into the floor joint. Take care to ensure that all the contents are scraped off the sides and bottom of the tins. Mix again for one minute. If a pouring jug is not available, crimp the rim of the empty can to help with pouring.

Application of Floor Joint Sealant

Pour evenly into the prepared joint, leaving the top of the joint sealant just below the surface of the floor. If required, finish off with a flat blade or knife to remove air bubbles and then remove any masking tape before the sealant has set, drawing the tape across the sealant face so that any excess sealant falls into the joint and not alongside it.

Watco Floor Joint Sealant will adhere to clean concrete, sand/cement screed, polymer cement, epoxy and other resin toppings and nosings and most other common floor materials. It will also adhere to steel and other non-porous materials, but Watco's advice should be sought in the case of plastic materials and bituminous surfaces.
