Substrates

Protecta-Coat can be used over most existing paint coatings, although a sample area should be tested first if in doubt. Protecta-Coat will also cope with slight movement in an existing coating, and is therefore fine to overcoat asphalt coatings and areas around vibrating machinery for instance.

Surface preparation

Floor temperature must be above -10°C and dry. Floor temperature must be above -10°C and dry. Previously painted surfaces should be diamond grinded thoroughly prior to application to achieve a consistently rough profile, and ensure all weakly bonded material is removed. Glossy or inadequately prepared surfaces may cause adhesion issues, so a thorough inspection is recommended to ensure no areas are missed, a bristle blaster can be used in any hard-to-reach areas. Thoroughly sweep the area following grinding; any loose material or dust can compromise adhesion. Bio-D can be used to remove any grease and oil from the surface following the grinding process, however, surfaces washed with Watco Bio D must be then thoroughly rinsed with water and allowed to dry fully, prior to coating.

A trial area is advisable to test compatibility with previous coatings. If applying outside do not apply when rain is forecast.

Mixing

Mix between 10°C-25°C. Remove the two tins from the large outer tin. Stir each tin individually and pour into larger outer tin. (Ensure that tin contents are completely emptied by scraping the sides etc). Mix the components together thoroughly using a spatula or wide bladed tool. Continue mixing until an even blend/consistency is obtained. Do not mix more than one tin at a time. If a Watco Mixing Blade and electric drill are used, also use a spatula to ensure any unmixed material from sides/corners and bottom of the tin is not missed. Do not dilute. The product will last for 25-30 minutes at 15°C. Less at higher temperatures.

Application

Apply between -10°C and +30°C. The viscosity will become somewhat thicker when applied at temperatures below 0°C and may result in a slight loss of coverage. When mixed a short pile roller should be used to work the product to around or over a 30m² area. This product is designed and performs best when applied very thinly (50 microns). If applied too thickly curing problems can occur.
