Protective waterproofing and dealing with damp
Rising damp is caused by a failure in the damp proof membrane (DPM) or in older buildings, because a DPM was never installed. If you are unsure if there is rising damp, lay a piece of polythene on the floor and stick it down with adhesive tape. If there is moisture under the plastic after 2-3 days this would indicate rising damp. Traditionally this would be dealt with by laying a new DPM on the floor and pouring fresh concrete on top.
one coat of Watco Damp Proof Membrane will hold back rising damp permanently. It copes with up to 98% relative humidity and turns a damp area into a dry, working environment. our Epoxy Damp Proof Membrane is applied by roller to the damp surface and can be overcoated, ideally with Watco Epoxicote High Build, after only 16 hours.
Damp proofing is also protecting the floor from water spillages. Watco Liquid Waterproofer is a tough, flexible, coating which is roller applied to concrete to protect it from spillages or flooding. It does not have to be painted, and it can be left as a wearing surface which allows the substrate to breathe. Protection from spillages and floods is critical in plant rooms. They are often on the top floor so a burst pipe or a split tank can lead to fluid flooding through the ceiling into the rooms below. Watco Plant room Coating provides a waterproof membrane which is highly flexible and so resists cracking or splitting in the event of structural movement. There are tight controls and regulations surrounding chemical spillages. Tanks containing oils or other chemicals must stand within a waterproof bund area which must have capacity to hold the entire content of the tank in the event of a leak. Watco Bund Sealer ensures the inside of the bund is water-tight. It’s a 100% solids, two part epoxy resin that is reinforced with glass flake to provide exceptional chemical resistance. It’s been tested for resistance to just about any chemical likely to be stored in an exterior tank.
