External anti slip paint for public walkways, playgrounds, tennis courts, private driveways
Watco Asphalt Paint Anti Slip is a flexible, anti slip coating which transforms and brightens up asphalt, and offers a good degree of slip resistance with just one high build application.
Asphalt Paint Anti Slip contains a pre-blended aggregate which provides a finely textured slip resistant surface. It leaves a more uniform and easily cleaned finish than conventional anti slip coatings where grit is sprinkled on separately.
This abrasion resistant, waterproof coating is most suited for use in light to medium trafficked areas, private asphalt driveways, tennis courts, playgrounds and warehouses. Watco Heavy Duty Anti Slip Traffic Paint is available for heavier wear external areas.
Asphalt Paint Anti Slip is quick and easy to use for painting large areas, and ideal for highlighting hazards, marking out parking bays and pedestrian areas, and for using with Watco Stencils. This coating has excellent UV resistance which helps protect against fading. Asphalt Paint Anti Slip carries CE Mark EN 1504-2 and has impressive test results for slip resistance, hardness, abrasion, adhesion, impact and flexibility. It’s virtually solvent free and has an A+ VOC emissions rating.

Principle limitations | Not recommended for use on concrete used by vehicles (see instead Watco Heavy Duty Anti Slip Traffic Paint). Watco Asphalt Paint Anti Slip is intended as a decorative finish only, and will not bind or fill weak or defective asphalt surfaces. Do not apply in areas which will be constantly under water. Do not apply too thickly. If the crevices and texture of the asphalt are filled with paint, this can prevent water draining which may result in a slip hazard |
Cleaning | Mild, neutral detergent – Watco Bio-D is ideal |
Cleaning tools | Water |
New asphalt & tarmac – should be sound and at least 3 months old. If any residual oils remain, the surface should be washed using Watco Concroff.
Existing bare asphalt & tarmac – remove any grease or oil deposits using Watco Concroff. Painted surfaces – abrade to remove any weak or loose paint. Check remaining paint is well bonded. Very smooth, glossy paint should be lightly abraded to provide a key. Watco Bio D can be used to remove grease and oil from painted surfaces.
Bare concrete – remove surface laitance, dust and any light dirt or grease deposits using Watco Etch & Clean. Watco Etch & Clean also etches smooth, bare concrete surfaces to provide a key. Flush with clean water and allow surface to dry. For the removal of heavier deposits of oil and grease we recommend Watco Concroff, again, flush with clean water and allow the surface to dry.
New concrete – as a guide, new concrete should be left for four weeks to dry in the summer and six in the winter. The surface should then be prepared using Watco Etch & Clean and thoroughly rinsed away and left to dry prior to applying this coating.
Damp surfaces – this coating can be applied to residual damp which may remain after cleaning.
Metal – remove any dust and flaking material by disc grinding or wire brushing. Apply the coating immediately after preparation to the clean metal surface. Grease or oil can be removed using Watco Bio D. Allow the metal to dry before coating.
Galvanised Metal – Watco Galvaprime must be used to prepare galvanised metal.
Non-ferrous Metals – for advice, please contact our technical department.
Priming – Standard: one coat is generally sufficient. On very porous or open textured surfaces, two coats may be required. The first coat will act as a ‘priming coat’ and may be diluted with up to 10% water to assist with application.
Heavy duty – priming is not usually required, but for open textured, or highly porous high suction surfaces, such as sand and cement screed, use Watco 4 Hour Epoxy Primer to ensure a uniform finish and to prevent air entrapment bubbles.
Stir the paint thoroughly and do not thin, however in very hot weather, (25°C+); up to 10% water may be added to make application easier. Apply by roller and work well into the surface. It can be applied by brush but this may result in reduced coverage. Avoid applying the paint too thickly as this encourages water to puddle on the surface and as such may become slippery. If a second coat is required, apply it as soon as the first coat is dry (generally 6 hours), and within 5 days of applying the first coat. If more than 5 days elapse, the first coat should be lightly abraded before the second coat is applied. Avoid washing the surface for 7 days.
